"[South Korea] should sternly push back Japan's attempt to turn it into an international territorial dispute. Koreans should defend Dokdo for themselves at any cost," he added, according to the Yonhap report.

The Uri Party chief's message was in line with South Korean President Roh Moo Hyun's special adddress last week, in which he said Japan's claim over the islands is tantamount to "justifying its history of crimes commited during the war of aggression."

Roh was apparently reffering to Japan's invasion and occupation of the Korean Peninsula before and during Worl War Ⅱ.
